One of your colleagues is about to attend a training course. These Guidelines will help to ensure that maximum benefit is derived from this investment.

Pre-Course Briefing
Preferably face to face

1 Discuss why the participant is attending this particular course

  • link to performance/development review

  • relate to current and future job performance and career progression if appropriate

  • discuss any pre-course work and concerns the participants may have

2 Encourage the setting of personal learning objectives

3 Confirm a date and time for a post course discussion

Post Course Briefing

1 Seek feedback on the key learning points gained

2 Discuss the action plan the participant has returned with

3 Provide support in terms of resources and coaching to help achieve these plans

4 Agree measures of performance which will demonstrate the application of learning gained during the course

5 Agree a process for monitoring progress and arrange a follow-up meeting
