Commonwealth Service Abroad Programme

During a meeting of Commonwealth Heads of Government held in Cyprus in 1993, it was suggested that the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation of the Commonwealth Secretariat should explore means to use the services of volunteers to meet the increasing demands for technical assistance by developing member countries of the Commonwealth.

For this purpose, it was decided to establish the Commonwealth Service Abroad Programme [CSAP] which draws upon expertise throughout the Commonwealth and covers a wide range of disciplines and professional specialisations.

The duration of projects under the programme usually range from one week to three months or more and volunteers are contracted on a no-fee basis but receive a daily allowance at UN rates, return economy class airfares and personal accident and medical insurance.

The General Technical Assistance Services Division [GTASD] of the Commonwealth Secretariat is seeking to increase the number of experts registered on the Roster and interested individuals may contact the Staff Development Organisation about the required application formalities.
